Wexford FC U15 | ⚽️Sean Fitzpatrick's cracking free kick from this afternoon's win over @shelsfc at Ferrycarrig Park! https://t.co/gGuuYeU6z1

Wexford FC can confirm that Darragh O'Connor has completed his move to Premier League side Leicester City. The 20 year old defender from Clonroche arrived at Ferrycarrig in January of this year and went on to make 20 appearances for us, making his League of Ireland senior debut coming on as a sub against Cobh Ramblers at St.Colman's Park back in March. He made his starting debut a week later at Tolka Park against Shelbourne FC.

Darragh impressed in trials for the Foxes in July and signed for their U23 squad this week. Darragh spoke with the Wexford FC media team before the move to express his gratitude to everyone at the club for the support during his time at Ferrycarrig:

"Full credit goes to Sully and Breener (Wexford FC Manager Brian O'Sullivan and Assistant Manager David Breen) for signing me as a young nineteen year old at the start of the season, the training sessions here have been top notch. Thanks to the boys on the pitch too, training week in week out, pushing each other. And to the club itself, we're probably one of the only few teams in the country that have it's own training facilities and clubhouse, it's a massive plus for us to have here and fantastic for a county like Wexford. It's been really good here and I'll always credit Wexford FC for it."

Wexford FC is hugely proud of Darragh and wishes him great success in the future.  We are committed to developing every young player who joins our academy or one of our squads will be given every opportunity and encouragement to become a better player and a better person.  It is one of our club's key objectives to find, encourage, nurture and develop the best of football talent in Wexford and the South East, so that they may reach their full potential.

Manager Brian O'Sullivan was keen to wish Darragh well for his move:  "I really wish him well, he was a player who got better every week, his commitment and behaviour was always first class and it's a great opportunity for him"
