Wexford FC 2⃣3⃣ days to go! A very soft day out on the training pitch, but the players are working harder than ever 💪🏼💪🏽💪🏿… https://t.co/SP9DQCg5bD

Wexford will need to replicate last week's excellent away performance at the Brandywell in order to get a positive result against title chasing Drogheda United this evening, the Drogs are 5 points behind current leaders Shelbourne with 4 games remaining with the Reds still to visit United Park. Tim Clancy's side are the League's top scorers with 49 goals from their 23 games (Shelbourne are next with 38 goals scored) and have 5 players in the squad who've scored 5 or more goals this season (Mark Doyle leads with 11).

United advanced into the second round of the FAI Cup last week with a 2-1 home win over Munster Senior League side Avondale United, the week before the Boynesiders beat Galway 3-1 at Eamonn Deacy Park. Their last home League game ended in a rare scoreless draw with Cabinteely at the end of July. They've only lost twice at home in the League this season, most recently to Longford Town back in May. In their other 9 League games at home this season they've won 7 and drawn 2.

Wexford FC and Drogheda have met twice this season, the first clash in the League was at United Park in March and was perhaps the cruelest defeat of the season for us, Mark Doyle scoring an injury time winner for Drogheda in the 92nd minute. Wexford had fought back from an early Luke Gallagher goal to tie the game at half time, Owen McCormack equalizing in the 35th minute. A backs to the wall performance in the second half was made even more difficult when Sean Callan was dismissed in the 80th minute but it looked like the huge effort was going to be rewarded with a point until Doyle converted in injury time for a 2-1 win for the home side.

It ended on the same scoreline in the second meeting of the year in May, this time Danny Furlong gave us a 1-0 lead at Ferrycarrig Park in the 15th minute but Drogheda responded with two quick fire goals in 4 minutes from Luke McNally and Jake Hyland to lead at half time. United defended well in the second half to earn all three points.

Furlong, who was Wexford's top scorer with 9 goals has left the club this week so Brian O'Sullivan may look to young forward Sean Roche to lead the line once again this evening, the 20 year old has scored twice in 12 appearances this season (just 3 starts). Wexford's current top scorer is Emmet Nugent with three goals.

Wexford have yet to win away this season, the record on the road standing at 2 draws and 10 defeats, the last away game was at the Brandywell against Derry City in the FAI Cup 1st Round last week which ended in a 1-0 defeat (the Candystripes scoring in the 84th minute). Wexford's last League game away from home ended in a 5-2 defeat to Shelbourne at Tolka Park on the 26th July (the week before that saw a good point earned at St.Colman's Park against Cobh).

In team news, Thomas Croke misses this evening's game due to suspension while the game comes too soon for Andy Mulligan who picked up an unfortunate knee injury on his comeback in a recent friendly game, although he has participated in some light training for us this week. In better news, Chris Kenny has returned from his long injury lay off and is set to travel with the rest of the squad this evening.

Kick off at United Park is 7:45pm
