#STRONGERTOGETHER

Wexford FC RT @YouthsWomen: We'd like to send our very best wishes and safe travels to two fantastic players and all-round super contibutors to the cl…

Wexford FC host fellow First Division strugglers Galway United in a must win game at Ferrycarrig Park tonight, Brian O'Sullivan's men hoping to halt a winless run of nine games. Galway come into the game with a similar record, last week's 3-0 home defeat to Shelbourne made it eight games without a victory for Alan Murphy's side.

The teams have met twice in the League this season already, United coming out on top on both occasions. The first meeting at Ferrycarrig in March (Wexford's opening home game of the season) saw the visitors return west with three points after a comprehensive 4-0 win (Donal Higgins, Conor Barry, Maurice Nugent and Colin Kelly on target). Not much went right for the home team on the night who spent the last 25 minutes of the game with ten men after the harsh dismissal of Danny Doyle (Galway were already 3-0 up at that stage). Seven of the players who lined out that night against Galway are no longer at the club (Joe Walshe, Liam McCartan, Sean Kelly, Owen McCormack, Sean Callan, Emmanuel Lawal and Jack Doherty). The second meeting at Eamonn Decay Park in May was a much closer affair, a stunning first half strike from Conor Barry and a late Maurice Nugent goal the difference between the sides in a competitive contest.

Galway followed up that win over Wexford with another home victory over Longford Town but that proved to be the last time they've managed three points. In the eight League games since then they've drawn two and lost six. Before last week's defeat to Shelbourne they drew with Athlone at home and lost at Cobh. Danger men for Wexford tonight include top scorer Vincent Faherty (5) and Maurice Nugent (his only two goals this season coming against Wexford) but Alan Murphy will be without the services of Conor Barry and Jack Lynch (both injured).

Since that 2-0 defeat at Eamonn Deacy Park Wexford have gone on the exact same run as tonight's opponents. In the eight games after that loss, Wexford have also drawn two and lost six. The last three games have also seen a just one point reward (drawing with Limerick at home followed by away defeats to Cabinteely and Athlone). There have been plenty of new arrivals at Ferrycarrig since the sides last met in May: Conor Sutton, Andrew O'Connor, Ricky Fox, John Peare, Andy Mulligan, Dave Corish, Conor English, Shane Griffin, Darryl Walsh and Stephen Lawless all joining over the summer transfer window. Of course big departures too with Sean Callan and Jack Doherty moving on.

Brian O'Sullivan is hoping for a big performance tonight and of course a positive result in what's turned out to be the most important game of Wexford's season so far:

"We have to win tonight to stay in touch with the teams around us so we're treating it as our cup final. We want to go out tonight and play with determination, desire and hunger. In Athlone we were missing a few key players and on top of that we gave away avoidable goals that really killed us and simply weren't good enough on the night. So tonight we want to put that right."

Brian will be without the injured Andy Mulligan and Chris Kenny for tonight's game but Danny Furlong and Emmet Nugent who missed last week's trip to Athlone are back available for selection.

Kick off at Ferrycarrig Park tonight is at 7:45pm.
