Wexford FC head to the City Calling Stadium tomorrow evening to take on 2nd placed Longford Town on matchday 16 in the SSE Airtricity League First Division, the last away game before the summer break. Wexford FC have a poor record against Longford and have been on the losing end in the last 7 contests although the midlanders had to come from behind the last time the sides met to earn the three points, the winner coming in the 85th minute.

That game at Ferrycarrig Park back in April saw Danny Furlong score his first goal for Wexford FC, his right foot finish in the 16th minute was the opening goal of the game and a lead Wexford held for an hour before Sam Verdon equalized for Longford with 15 minutes remaining, Peter Hopkins scored the winning goal for the visitors 10 minutes later (you can check out the highlights below). That Furlong goal is only one of eight which Longford have conceded in their 15 games so far this season (they have the First Division's best defensive record) with just three scored against them at City Calling Stadium.

Neale Fenn's team had a great start to the season and were undefeated in their opening 10 League games, the first loss of the season finally coming at home to Cabinteely in May. The month of May proved to be a tricky one for them as that first defeat was followed with 2 more losses away to Galway and Shelbourne. The ship was steadied with a comfortable away win over Athlone and a revenge home victory over Galway on Monday night to put them in an excellent position to fight for the title and return back to the Premier Division for the first time since 2016. Longford have been in excellent form at home this season, they've won 6 of their 7 home games. Players to watch out for tomorrow night include Enniscorthy born Aaron Dobbs who was of course at Wexford FC for two seasons before signing for Longford this year (the talented young striker had to come off after an early injury at Ferrycarrig in April), Dean Byrne (their top scorer this season with 6 goals so far) and highly rated young midfielder Aodh Dervin.

Wexford head into the game on the back of a narrow 2-1 home defeat to Drogheda United, the third 2-1 loss in a row (the other two coming at home to Shelbourne and away to Bray) and have just the one point on their travels so far this season (1-1 draw at Limerick in April). Brian O'Sullivan has been busy strengthening the young squad this week as the summer transfer window opens, Ricky Fox, John Peare and Conor Sutton all joining up with the squad ahead of tomorrow night's game and all three players will be very familiar to the Ferrycarrig faithful having played with Wexford FC and Wexford Youths in the past. Unfortunately Danny Furlong will miss the trip up to Longford tomorrow after picking up an injury in training this week, a big loss especially with his recent scoring form. Another big loss is Paddy Cahill who has been excellent for us all year whether in midfield or defence, he misses out through suspension. In more positive news Sean Callan is back available for selection after missing the Drogheda game through suspension.

Kick off at the City Calling Stadium on Saturday is at 7:30pm.
