Wexford FC RT @YouthsWomen: ⚽️ @bkingslxy hat-trick from @YouthsWomen U17s win over @LimerickFCWomen at Ferrycarrig on Saturday!🎩⚽️💗 https://t.co/C9wU…

Owen McCormack, Wexford FC's all time appearance record holder has confirmed that he is taking a step away from football for personal reasons. Owen started out at Ferrycarrig Park playing with Wexford Youths under age teams in 2015 before progressing to the senior Wexford FC team and finally captaining the side for the first time in the place of the injured Ross Kenny towards the end of the 2018 season.

Owen was named vice captain for the 2019 season and led the team out on numerous occasions this year in the absence of Chris Kenny. The 21 year old defender made an astonishing 61 appearances for Wexford FC (59 starts), scoring two goals. Everyone at Ferrycarrig would like to offer Owen a huge thanks for all his efforts at the club and wish him the very best.

Owen made the following statement on his social media:

"I'd just like to thank everyone at Wexford for the last 3-4 years, it's been a pleasure, never will I have a bad word to say about the club. A special mention to Seanie O'Shea (Chairperson of Wexford FC), if it was not for him there would be no Wexford FC (Youths), the work that man puts in is relentless. I had some great highs, many lows. From getting to the Leinster Senior Cup Final at 18 in Dalymount to walking out in Turners Cross a week later to make my League debut against Cork City and then go to captain the club at 20, I couldn't be more grateful. Thanks for everything."
