Wexford FC head to Markets Field tomorrow night for the first ever meeting with Limerick FC on match day 8 in the SSE Airtricity League First Division. The home team are one of the form sides in the League of Ireland with four League wins on the bounce to place them second in the table just behind Longford Town (14 points each and only separated by goal difference).

The Blues were relegated from the Premier Division in 2018 after a difficult season on and off the pitch but things are looking much brighter now after local investment into the club over the close season and the Munster side are aiming to return back to the top flight at the first attempt (They were crowned First Division Champions and promoted to the Premier in 2016 after losing just one game all season).

Limerick have a record of 4 wins, 2 draws and just the 1 defeat (to Bray) in their opening 7 League games and are undefeated at home in 2019. Their current winning run has included home victories against Cobh and Athlone with away wins at Cabinteely and last weeks 1-0 win in Galway. One of the danger men for Wexford to watch out for is Connor Ellis, the 21 year old forward has grabbed four goals in six games for the Blues this season. Manager Tommy Barrett has put together a good blend of young local talent like Ellis with experienced League of Ireland campaigners like midfielder Jason Hughes and will be looking for his team to continue their 5 game unbeaten run with three points at Markets Field tomorrow night. Both sides will be looking for improved discipline on the pitch with 43 bookings between them in the opening 7 League games (Limerick with 20, Wexford 23).

Wexford head into the game hoping luck will finally turn in their favour after two crushing late winners for the opposition in the last two games (away to Drogheda and at home to Longford last week). The game at Ferrycarrig against First Division leaders Longford last week once again saw improvements from Brian O'Sullivan's team but unfortunately no points as Wexford remain bottom of the League with one win and six defeats. Brian spoke to the Wexford FC media team after the frustrating loss to Longford last week:

'We're bitterly disappointed with the result, the first half we could have been two or three up, played really well. In the second half we went out and got punished for a few mistakes, probably dropped off a little deep when we should have stayed high. The performances have been improving in the last couple of weeks but we need to turn these good performances into results. To do that we need to perform for the full 90 minutes if we want to start picking up points."

Brian may have some selection headaches tomorrow night with a number of injury concerns going into the game. Danny Furlong who opened his scoring account for Wexford FC in last weeks defeat picked up an ankle injury in training on Wednesday night and is likely to miss the game. Top scorer Jack Doherty who was very impressive for us again last week is another major doubt and will face a late fitness test. Goalkeeper Joe Walshe continues to recover from a head injury picked up in training a few weeks ago and will miss the game but might be back available for selection next week. Club Captain Chris Kenny's recovery from his pre-season groin injury has hit a few bumps along the way and is still a few weeks away from returning to action.

Kick off at Markets Field, Limerick tomorrow night is at 7:45pm.

Injured: Chris Kenny, Joe Walshe.

Doubtful: Danny Furlong, Jack Doherty.
