Wexford FC Wexford FC host AFC Wimbledon in a friendly at Ferrycarrig Park this Saturday at 2.00pm! Full story:… https://t.co/481RbGqoU1

Wexford FC welcome an in-form Longford Town side to Ferrycarrig Park tomorrow night on Matchday 7 in the SSE Airtricity League First Division. Longford are the only side left in the First Division who have yet to taste defeat after 3 wins and 2 draws in their opening five League games so far.

Our record against the midlanders is poor to say the least, in the seven League encounters since 2017 we have just the one draw to our name with the other six games ending in defeats. That draw (0-0) actually came in the very first contest between Wexford FC and Longford Town at Ferrycarrig Park on April 7th, 2017. Another stat that goes against us is our scoring record against them, just the one goal (scored by Thomas Croke in a 2-1 defeat back in 2017) with 16 conceded in the 7 games. This is a very different Wexford FC team to the ones that took part in the previous contests however in terms of personnel and although it's been a disappointing start to the 2019 season for us there have been positive signs in recent weeks with fine performances against Drogheda (beaten by a 92nd minute winner) and of course in our last home game against Bray Wanderers when Emmet Nugent and Jack Doherty were on target in a 2-0 win.

Despite exiting the EA Sports Cup at the 2nd round stage on Tuesday night (a 3-0 away defeat to Derry City) Longford will arrive in the South East in buoyant mood after a well deserved 2-0 League win over title favourites Shelbourne FC at the City Calling Stadium last week. That win put them in 2nd place one point behind Bray with a game in hand (their next game is at home to Wanderers next week). Neale Fenn's team finished 4th last season and this is their 3rd year in the First Division since dropping down in 2016 (the same season Wexford Youths were relegated). Danger men for them tomorrow night include Aaron Dobbs, the 20 year old striker from Enniscorthy signed for them over the close season after spending two seasons with us on loan from Shamrock Rovers. Aaron scored his first goal for Longford in their 3-0 win over Drogheda last month.

Wexford FC will be without Sean Callan tomorrow night, the impressive young defender is suspended after his sending off in Drogheda and it's an area of concern for Manager Brian O'Sullivan after three Wexford dismissals in the opening six League games. Brian spoke to the clubs media team earlier this week:

"We need to be better in our discipline obviously, we need to finish with eleven if we are to have any chance in games as last week it cost us dearly. Another area we're looking for improvement in is with our passing, against Bray we moved the ball really well and caused them problems, if we get them improvements and defend the way we have done in recent games, we feel we can pick up points. We're starting to show we can compete at this level and we'll continue to work hard on and off the field. We had our best performance of the season against Bray, the support for us was fantastic on the night and gave the lads a huge lift on the pitch, it's really appreciated. Hopefully it'll be the same for this week, we know how important it is to pick points up at home in front of our own fans."

Kick off tomorrow night at Ferrycarrig Park is at 7:45pm.
