Matchday 4 and Wexford FC head to Tolka Park tomorrow night to take on First Division title favourites Shelbourne FC. This will be Wexford's fifth away game out of the six competitive fixtures so far this season.

Shelbourne head into the game placed second in the table, three points behind Bray Wanderers, after two victories (both away to Galway United and Athlone Town) and one surprising home defeat to Cabinteely FC in their opening three League games.

After just missing out on a Promotion play off spot last year (finishing 3rd) the Reds strengthened hugely over the close season, new Manager Ian Morris signing players with vast Premier Division experience like Ciaran Kilduff (Dundalk), Conan Byrne (St.Pats), Oscar Brennan (Bohemians) and Ryan Brennan (St.Pats) to add to an already talented squad. The squad also includes Aidan Friel who signed from Finn Harps but will be well known to Wexford Youths supporters for his season at Ferrycarrig Park back in 2016. Most pundits have Shels as clear favourites for the First Division title and to return back to the Premier Division for the first time since 2013.

The sides have met each other on eight occasions. Shelbourne were the first side that Wexford FC ever met in a competitive game back in 2017 (a Leinster Senior Cup 1st Round tie at Tolka Park, the hosts winning 4-2). Out of the seven League clashes between us since then, Wexford have two victories with five defeats, both wins coming in 2017 (Thomas Croke among the scorers in both wins).

Wexford are still looking for the first points on the board this year after three League defeats and two Cup exits so far and head into the game on the back of the heavy 6-1 loss to Cobh Ramblers at St.Colmans's Park last Saturday. Manager Brian O'Sullivan will be glad to see some players returning from injury and suspension ahead of tomorrow nights game, Sean Callan and Thomas Croke are both back available for selection after missing the trip to Cobh with injuries while Danny Furlong's 3 match suspension from the opening League game vs Athlone has finally expired, as has Danny Doyle's 1 match suspension from the Galway United game.

Kick off at Tolka Park tomorrow night is at 7:45pm.
