#STRONGERTOGETHER

Wexford FC U15 | Excellent win on the road for our U15s up at Marlay Park, Andrew Synoradzki on target for us today as it fini… https://t.co/3byoZNh7BN

Wexford FC return to League action tomorrow evening with a trip to St.Colman's Park to face Cobh Ramblers, both sides looking for their first points of the season.

It's been a frustrating start to the season for the Rams, beaten 4-0 by Drogheda United away from home in their opening fixture, Stephen Henderson's men arrived late to United Park after transport issues and after been allowed just 10 minutes to warm up by match officials, were soon down to 10 men, Cian Leonard dismissed after 30 minutes. Not an ideal start to a season as Wexford FC well know! United were rampant after that.

Last week they were unfortunate not to get a result in their first home game vs Athlone Town, finishing much the stronger but the midlanders hanging on for three points with a narrow 1-0 win. After the cancelation of their EA Sports Cup tie vs Limerick earlier in the week due to the weather, Cobh will be raring to kickstart their season with a win tomorrow night. The Munster side were optimistic coming into their 2019 campaign having kept the majority of their squad and adding the likes of talented young midfielder Jack Lynch from Waterford FC and experienced midfielder Ian Turner from St.Patrick's Athletic. After a poor League run in 2018, finishing 8th on 29 points (8 wins, 5 draws and 14 defeats) there was confidence that they could challenge for a play off position this year and bring back the kind of form that saw them finish runners up in the First Division to Waterford FC in 2017.

Wexford FC have never beaten Cobh, since 2017 we have met eight times in competitive fixtures (7 League games and once in the EA Sports Cup) with two draws and six defeats. In 2017, Lee Duffy scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at St.Colman's Park in Wexford FC's first ever League game. Last season, Aaron Dobbs was on target in a 1-1 draw at Ferrycarrig, other than that, the Rams have come out on top in each encounter although the games have always been tight. In five of those victories for Cobh, the margin has been by just the one goal (the other occasion was a 2-0 win).

The sides have already met once this season, in a pre-season friendly game a month ago in Cobh the home team ran out 3-1 winners (Emmet Nugent on target for Wexford).

Wexford of course have had an equally frustrating start to the new League season, going a man down after 10 minutes and losing 4-2 in the opening away League game in Athlone before a dissapointing 4-0 home League defeat to Galway United (and again going down to 10 men) seven days ago and head into the game on the back of a 3-2 EA Sports Cup defeat to Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on Monday night. Going in at the break 3-0 down after conceding from a free kick, penalty kick and deflected goal, Brian O'Sullivan's men almost pulled a remarkable comeback out of the bag in Wicklow with goals from Ryan Nolan and Sean Roche in the second 45 (their firsts for the club) before time eventually ran out.

Captain on the night Owen McCormack:

"I thought the Bray game went reasonably well, we can't buy a bit of luck at the moment going on the three goals that they scored. But the second half performance was a real positive for us going into the game tomorrow."

Wexford FC will be missing some key players tomorrow night, Danny Furlong and Danny Doyle both missing through suspension, but Brian O'Sullivan will be looking to finally have some good news on the pitch on Saturday evening after the wonderful news off it this week with the birth of his new son (congratulations Brian and Tara!).
