Wexford FC are delighted to announce that Danny Furlong has signed with the club, the prolific striker from Rosslare achieved legendary status in Ferrycarrig Park with Wexford Youths and still holds the League of Irelands First Division all time goalscoring season record after netting 30 League goals in 28 matches with the Youths in their title winning year of 2015.

Danny began his League of Ireland career with Wexford Youths in 2008 and quickly proved himself to be a prolific goalscorer in the First Division before signing for Premier Division Cork City in 2012. He spent two seasons with City (including a short loan spell with Waterford United) before returning back to Ferrycarrig Park in 2014.

Another hugely successfull spell in Wexford followed (18 League goals in 2014, 30 goals and First Division title success for the Youths in 2015 and of course promotion to the Premier Division. The 2016 season ended however with relegation back to the First Division for the Youths after a play off defeat to Drogheda United.

Having left Ferrycarrig in October 2016, Danny spent 18 months in New Zealand with Southern United FC before a move back to home soil with Shane Keegan's Galway United in February 2018 and although his time at Eamonn Deacy Park was interrupted by injury the 29 year old still managed 7 goals in 12 appearances there.

Danny spoke with the club media team about signing and the season ahead with Wexford FC:

"Delighted to be back at Ferrycarrig and looking forward to a big season. After speaking to Brian and Breener things are looking positive again. I know the club went through a tough few years, but we have the makings of a good squad here. We can kick on, not just make up the numbers and finish in the top half of the table which I think is a realistic target."

With the new season just over three weeks away, Danny is hoping supporters will get behind the team and is hoping for a good positive start:

"Really looking forward to putting on the Wexford jersey and representing my county, hopefully we'll start getting the crowds back in the gates, the first home game will be against Galway, that one would be a nice one to pick up some points as well but first of all we've Athlone away which is going to be a real tough game as you've seen with the signings they've made but I'm really looking forward to it."

Wexford FC play Cobh Ramblers in a friendly game at St.Colman's Park on Saturday, February 2nd with a 2pm kick off.

The SSE Airtricity League First Division season kicks off on Friday, February 22nd with an away game against Athlone Town. The first home game follows a week later when we welcome Galway United to Ferrycarrig Park.
