Wexford FC RT @YouthsWomen: ⚽️ @bkingslxy hat-trick from @YouthsWomen U17s win over @LimerickFCWomen at Ferrycarrig on Saturday!🎩⚽️💗 https://t.co/C9wU…

Wexford FC are delighted to announce that Jack Doherty has signed with the club. The talented 24 year old midfielder from Clonmel has previously played for Ipswich Town, Waterford United, Limerick FC and Longford Town.

Having started out with his local team Carrick United, Jack began his League of Ireland career with Waterford United in 2011, first at U19 level before breaking into the first team. Former Ipswich Town (and current Republic of Ireland Manager) Mick McCarthy invited the former Irish youth international for a trial at Portman Road and after impressing, Jack signed a two year deal with the English Championship side in 2013. Having found the breakthrough difficult and suffering from homesickness he returned home on loan to Waterford in 2014 before moving to Limerick FC later that summer. Jack returned to the RSC at the end of the 2014 season before making a summer transfer to Longford Town in July, 2015.

After another spell at Carrick United in 2016, Jack has recently returned from a short trip to the U.S and was delighted when Wexford FC Manager Brian O'Sullivan got in touch and asked him come to Ferrycarrig for the coming season.

"I've played a few times at Ferrycarrig Park before against Wexford Youths and I played with David (Breen, Wexford FC first team Coach) when I was at Waterford so I'm delighted to get back playing at this level. I hope I can bring something to the team that helps us win games, thats what it's all about, getting three points and try get us as high up the table as we can."

"It would be nice to challenge for things, even Cups, knocking one or two of the bigger boys out. Right now though we're just focussed on that first game of the season, it would be nice to get off to a good start against Athlone."

Wexford FC will kick off our 2019 Airtricity League First Division campaign with an away trip to Lissywollen to play Athlone Town on Friday, February 22nd.
