Wexford FC Highlights from @WexfordFC U17s 1-0 win over @ShamrockRovers at Ferrycarrig Park yesterday are now up on our Facebo… https://t.co/7INQUzvGZX

Last away trip of the 2018 season sees us head west to Eamonn Deacy Park for the second time this year and we'll be hoping for a better result this time round. A shock was on the cards back in April when Wexford went in at half time 1-0 up (Aaron Dobbs with a super volley) against Shane Keegans title hopefuls but an equalizer by Danny Furlong after an hour was quickly followed by a Ross Kenny sending off (followed directly by an incorrect penalty decision to give United the lead) and it was tough going from there. 4-1 it finished to the Tribesmen.

An awful lot has changed in both camps on and off the pitch since then, both Managers on duty that day are no longer at each club, there was ownership news with Saudi takeovers at United while the Wexford Supporters Trust took part ownership here and both clubs have turned to their youth squads to promote talented players into the first team.

Theres little to play for in terms of promotion or places on Friday for either side but despite the disappointing campaigns theres an element of optimism for 2019 in both camps. Galway Player Manager Alan Murphy will be looking to prepare his team for a promotion/title challenge next year while at Ferrycarrig the search for a new Manager gathers pace.

Galway are looking for their first League win since a 3-2 victory over Cabinteely at Eamonn Deacy Park at the end of July, at the time they were still in the hunt for a play off spot but subsequent defeats to fellow challengers Longford (4-1) and Finn Harps (2-0) ensured a mid table finish. Their recent run also includes a FAI Cup exit to Bohemians (who thumped us in the same competition) and a 2-2 away draw at Drogheda United.

Theres a 23 point gap between the sides in the table, United in 6th on 36 points (10 wins 6 draws and 9 defeats), us in 9th on 13 points (3 wins 4 draws and 18 defeats) and Wexford FC and Galway United have only met on two occasions, both this season.

The second and last time we met United was back in June at Ferrycarrig Park and we put in a battling performance to earn a point in a scoreless draw, we were missing Ross Kenny and Aaron Dobbs through injury and even our captain that night Thomas Croke had to sit in at centre back after a bad head clash for Owen McCormack forced him off. Similarly to United we too are looking for our first win since July (funnily enough also against Cabinteely) and despite the Bohs hammering in the FAI Cup the recent performances from the young squad have been very promising, in particular our last two games against Shelbourne and Cobh Ramblers. Although both games ended in 2-1 defeats, we created and played well enough to justify victories.

Theres still an opportunity for us to finish the season with the same amount of points as last year! It would require victories against both Galway and Athlone Town (our last home game) but we would have matched the total having played less games (28 in 2017, 27 in 2018).

We have a full squad to choose from tomorrow night although John Morgan remains a doubt with a groin injury but Aaron Dobbs who missed the Cobh game is back in contention for a starting place.

Kick off at Eamonn Deacy Park tomorrow is set for 7:45pm.
