Wexford FC Wexford FC host AFC Wimbledon in a friendly at Ferrycarrig Park this Saturday at 2.00pm! Full story:… https://t.co/481RbGqoU1

Just six League games remaining this year for us but four of them at home, the first of which sees high flying Drogheda United with their second trip to the south east in 2018, the first encounter at Ferrycarrig back in March been one of our darkest days this season (8-1 to the visitors).

Drogheda arrive in fine form after a little mid season wobble which threatened their pursuit of a play off spot. They've won three of their last four games (the only defeat to Finn Harps with wins against Athlone, Shelbourne and Cobh) and currently sit 2nd, just five points off League leaders U.C.D with six games to play.

Drogheda were relegated from the Premier Division in 2017 after finishing bottom but have been very strong all year under new Manager Tim Clancy and have scored the second highest amount of goals this year (42) and conceded the second fewest (19). This week the club also received terrific news with the FAI announcing a brand new 3,000 seater stadium (with plans to increase to 10,000) to be built for Drogheda town in which United will become tennants so a bright future ahead for the club.

Theres a significant 28 point gap between the sides at the moment but the last time the sides met in the League will give us some encouragement for a positive result tomorrow night. Although we suffered a 2-0 defeat at United Park back in May, there wasn't too much between the sides on the night and just a goal in it (Chris Lyons) before a late Sean Brennan penalty put the game beyond Wexfords reach.

We go into the game on the back of two defeats (U.C.D and Longford) after a good recent run of results (draw with Galway, win at Cabinteely) and will hope to finish the season as strongly as possible. We may even have an impact on that play off/ title fight as we also face Harps and Shelbourne in our run in.

Big changes to come too as the search for a new Manager continues, the Supporters Trust very first AGM to come in August and our young promising talent been given an opportunity to shine at the highest level with recent debuts for Mahsood, O'Reilly, Quinlan and Smithers so plenty to be positive about for the future.

Ross Kenny, Aaron Dobbs, Ryan Nolan and AJ Lehane are all on the mend from recent injuries and back up running and training but are still unavailable for selection for this weeks game. Hopefully they'll be back for our away trip to Harps or the Bohs FAI Cup game in a few weeks time.

Mark Slater should be fit for Friday however having missed last weeks game in Longford through injury while Owen McCormack is back from his suspension.

We are also delighted to announce that our new loan signing this week, Dean Walsh is also available for selection for tomorrows game. The 21 year old joins from Waterford FC having played with their U19s and promoted to the senior side in 2017. He scored four goals for them as they cruised to the the First Division title that year. Management at the Blues thought highly of the young player and he was re-signed to the club in 2018 and has gone on to make a further 7 appearances for them in the Premier Division this season. The young forward another promising addition to the squad and is with us till the end of the season.

Kick off at Ferrycarrig Park is set for 8pm Friday night.
