This Friday sees Wexford FCs ninth and last game in the first round of matches in this years League, and after last weeks emphatic win over the side that props up the table, this week we visit the home of the team that currently proudly sits top.

U.C.D are two points ahead of the chasing bunch having won 6, drawn once and lost once (to Drogheda United) after eight games while they were knocked out of the EA Sports Cup by Bohemians in the second round on penalties earlier this month. Last year they finished in third place behind Waterford FC and Cobh Ramblers but even at this stage they look like one of the favourites for promotion into the Premier Division. Probably one of the best footballing sides in the division, Wexford will have to work hard to get possession on the night while they also contain one of the deadliest strikers in the League with Georgie Kelly having already scored eight times in their eight games and who currently sits second place in the goalscoring charts this season. Last year he was the First Divisions top scorer with 17 so he's almost halfway there already and will be one of the many U.C.D players to watch out for on the night.

There is reason to be optimistic of course, last weeks result and performance will mean that confidence will be high going into the game, plus in the four games last year with U.C.D we managed to get two very good draws and were very competitive in the two defeats. We spoke to Manager Damian Locke first about the Athlone game :

"Great performance last week and it was great to see us put away half our chances. I've said for weeks we've been competitive most games and creating chances but now I believe the boys will start firing and kick us up the table."

As for Friday nights game in Dublin:

"U.C.D will obviously bring a different challenge but its one we are looking forward to. We will go into the game with all the expectation on U.C.D to pick up the three points but hopefully we can bring another good performance this Friday and if we do, I'm positive they won't have it easy."

Good team news for Friday is our captains back with Ross Kenny returning from the suspension he picked up in the Galway game, however Conor Sutton, John Morgan and Owen Wall will most likely be still unavailable due to injury.

Kick off at the U.C.D Bowl on Friday is at the slightly earlier time of 7:45pm.
