Senior manager Damian Locke began his 2018 squad announcements with the news that Ross Kenny would be named as the new team captain, having agreed to sign up for the 2018 season.  This follows the unfortunate news that previous club captain Craig McCabe has decided to depart the club, having chosen not to re-join for the upcoming season.

McCabe stepped into the role following the retirement of Graham Doyle back in June this year, and the club greatly appreciates Craig’s hard work in his 6 years at Ferrycarrig Park.

Speaking to the club media team this week, Mayo native Ross Kenny was thrilled to take over the role for the upcoming season:

“I got the call from Damian on Wednesday night and he told me about Craig McCabe which is obviously a huge loss, it’ll be hard to replace him. It’s an honour for me to lead Wexford FC this coming season. I am really looking forward to the 2018 season and hopefully I'll be one of many leaders within the squad"

“Graham Doyle was very vocal in the dressing room, and a lot more experienced.  Myself, I don’t see myself changing, or changing my style of play.  I will continue on in the same way I was playing last year.”

When asked for a message to the fans of the club going into the 2018, Ross was quick to welcome the introduction for the Wexford Supporter’s Trust, the supporter-run co-operative which will soon take ownership of Wexford FC

“It’s a great thing, it’s important that fans feel a part of the club.  One thing I really learned from last year is the family-feel to Wexford FC.  It’s a friendly feeling.  I really enjoyed that, and that’s part of why I jumped at the chance to sign back.  It’s a brilliant family club and the Supporter’s Trust is a great way for fans to feel like it’s their own”

Ross Kenny was one of Damian Locke’s most impactful signings at the start of the 2017 season.  Kenny missed out just twice on Locke’s starting side in the 2017 campaign, making 28 appearances and scoring once in his debut season with Wexford FC.
