The fate of the 2017 Women's National League championship will be decided in this winner take all match at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday night.

Peamount go into the final league match of the year with a single point lead in the table over Wexford, meaning a draw is not enough for the home side.

Wexford have been in this situation before, in one sense.  On their way to picking up their second Women's National League title in the 2015/16 season, the league was decided in single play-off game in Tallaght Stadium vs. Shelbourne Ladies.  Wexford Youths Women ran out 2-1 winners on the day.

Wexford and Peamount have faced each other twice this year, with Wexford picking up a 1-0 home win back in May before playing out a 2-2 draw in Greenogue in July.

Speaking to the Wexford media team this week, Assistant Manager Denny Carthy was keen to point out the enormous amount of work that had gone into Wexford getting into this position:

"It has been a long season.  We have been slow in the build-up and are preparing for this game as we would any other.  The title may be decided on Saturday night but it's the hard graft put in over the last 10 months that has us here.  It's one more fight.  If there is one quality our squad has, it's that will to win, a quality not bestowed onto many".

Wexford Youths Women have no injury concerns to report going into this all important weekend, Laura Heffernan reporting that she has a fully fit squad to select from.  After top quality performances from incoming Rianna Jarrett and Aoibhinn Webb against Cork City WFC last weekend, Heffernan will have a major selection headache.

For Denny Carthy and the rest of Wexford Youths Women however, the goal is now clear:

"Our task on Saturday night has no complications, we have to win.

A lot of people didn't believe we would still be fighting for the title at this stage of the season but we've never given up.  It's not what we do.  It's quite fitting that the fixture coincides with the closing of the Wexford Opera Festival.  As the saying goes...It ain't over til the fat lady sings".

Kick off at Ferrycarrig Park is set for 7.30pm.

The full match will be streamed live on the FAI WNL Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/WNLeague/
