After a week where forward Lee Duffy left the club, and club captain Graham Doyle announced his retirement, Wexford FC must now turn their attention to football matters against second-from-bottom Athlone Town in Ferrycarrig Park.

Tributes to the outgoing shot stopper have been pouring in to the club since the announcement was made during the week. The man who will now wear the armband full time, Craig McCabe, also had the following to say. "This week has been very sad for the players, coaches, and fans alike as it marks the retirement of one of the most influential players the club has ever seen. Graham was a warrior on the field, and a pure gentleman off of it. He has helped so many players improve their game over the years with his vast experience. It was with great committment and hard work that Graham went on to make 151 consecutive League of Ireland appearances. It has been a huge honour to have played alongside Graham for the past five years. On behalf of myself and all of the players, I would like to wish him all the best in his retirement. Our captain, our leader, our legend".

In what will be the third meeting of the season between the two clubs, Athlone Town currently hold the advantage, beating us twice (2-1 and 1-0).

The hosts will be without defender Andrew O'Connor, who serves the first of a three game ban after his dismissal late on against Cobh Ramblers in St Colman's Park last time out. Wexford were without Ross Kenny and Thomas Croke that day in Cork, but both are now available again after serving their one match suspension.

Adam Hanlon is back in training this week, after missing the last two games through injury, and is in contention for a recall to the starting eleven. However Shane Dunne who limped out of the home win over Shelbourne continues to miss out.

With the retirement of Graham Doyle, it is assumed that Corey Chambers will start in goal, with under-19 goalkeeper Adam Dempsey stepping up to offer cover from the bench.

Draw: 12/5
Athlone Town: 2/1
